Wild weekend in sports

What a weekend for the sports world. Saturday you had the first set of elite 8 games, Butler vs Florida and then Kemba University vs Arizona. And then Sunday you had the second set of games with VCU taking on the last #1 seed and for most people their last prayer in their brackets, Kansas. And then UNC vs Kentucky for the last final 4 spot. Also on Sunday, for all you golf fans, the final round of the Arnold Palmer invitational at Bay Hill, maybe our last shot to see if Tiger Woods still knows how to swing a golf club before he tees it up at agusta in 2 weeks for the masters.
So on Saturday we were all very spoiled, as both games were instant classics, each coming down to the last possesion of the game. Butler does what they seem to always do, which is win, punching their 2nd straight ticket to the final 4. In the 2nd game kemba didnt play his best, but uconn still snuck a W over potential future #1 pick derek williams and arizona. Sunday we were not as lucky, but twice as surprised as both of the lower seeds pulled of the wins. First VCU shocked the world and took down kansas. The 11 seed will be making their first final 4 appearance in school history. I guess the glass slipper still fits?....or the field is just really bad this year. And some more evidence that the field is less than stellar this year. Kentucky, an extremely young, and mediocre team will be heading to the final 4 after beating another mediocre/young team, unc. I cant tell whether I find it good for the sport that we have 4 decent teams in the final 4, instead of the usual 2 or 3 power houses and that occasional 1 surprise. Lets get real here, 95 out of 100 years Virginia Commonwealth University (yes that is what vcu stands for all you bandwagon jumpers) is not making the final 4. 70 of those 100 years this vcu team probably dosent even make the tournament at all. But the fact that these teams like vcu and butler are making these tournament runs gives us little guys some hope for our programs. On the other hand, there isnt much better than watching 2 powerhouse squads play a great game in a big tournament environment, and quite frankly we just are not going to get that at this final 4 with vcu vs butler, and uconn vs kentucky (dont let the names fool you, these arent your dad's kentucky and uconn teams. Rick Patino isnt walking through that door, and if he did there would be alot of adultery being committed and then covered up short after). But anywho there really is not a good answer to the question, is this final 4 good for college basketball?Because it is, but it isnt. Stay classy gents.

P.S. 2013 final 4 is in Atlanta. Book your tickets now, Bryant Bulldogs doing the dirty bird in the georgia dome after winning the national championship.

P.P.S Martin Laird won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in a thriller. I know, totally predictable, right? Oh, and tiger made no progress to make us believe he has been the best golfer in the world the last 12 years.
